You must pass a business and law exam to become a certified contractor in Georgia. All contractors are required to pass the OSHA exam. Depending on the trade you are interested in you may have to also pass a trade exam. These exams require a minimum score of 70% to pass. Average processing time for applications is three months. If you are interested in becoming licensed with the state of Georgia please call (478) 207-1416, or contact: State Construction Industry Licensing Board. Out of state corporations must register with the Georgia Secretary of State to do business in the state. For a list of approved carriers of Workers' Compensation Insurance please contact Georgia's State Board of Workers' Compensation, you may also call the Chief Operating Officer at 404-656- 2048. Contractors must show proof of a Certificate of Insurance in their name, or the name of the business, as required by Georgia law, and general liability insurance in following minimum amounts for each category of licensure. Residential Basic - $300,000 / Residential Light Commercial - $500,000 / General Contractor - $500,000.
